Annual Doctor's Day Event at the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum in Las Vegas designed to help children feel comfortable with doctor’s visits and routine medical procedures.

DISCOVERY Children’s Museum recently welcomed hundreds of families as it hosted its annual Teddy Bear Clinic/Doctor’s Day celebration, an interactive event sponsored by Intermountain Health designed to help children feel more comfortable with doctor visits and routine medical care.
The hands-on experience invited children to bring their favorite stuffed animals and “play doctor” for the day—practicing check-ups, applying bandages, learning how X-rays work, and exploring basic medical procedures. Many children received a free teddy bear if they didn’t bring their own.
The clinic was supported by caregivers and volunteers from Intermountain Health, who guided families through playful, educational health stations aimed at reducing fear around medical environments. Several Intermountain Health physicians were also onsite, speaking with families about healthcare careers and what children can expect during a typical doctor’s visit.
“I think it helps children understand what it’s like to participate in medicine,” said Dr. Taryn Bragg, pediatric neurosurgeon with Intermountain Health. “It also takes a lot of fear away when they personally go to the doctor, because they know what to anticipate.”
The Teddy Bear Clinic coincided with National Doctors’ Day, celebrated nationally on March 30, and highlighted the importance of physicians and healthcare professionals while also drawing attention to the growing need for medical workers.
The event also showcased the museum’s updated health exhibit, supported by Intermountain Health, which includes a large-scale version of the classic Operation game, a hands-on baby doll nursery, and an interactive X-ray simulation that teaches children about the human skeletal system.
The Teddy Bear Clinic reinforced the museum’s workforce development core goals. Through play-based STEAM learning, DISCOVERY Children’s Museum introduces children to a wide range of potential careers, from healthcare and engineering to other specialized industries.
“We love having families come into the museum and experience all of this,” said Katherine Vandertulip, Vice President of Development for DISCOVERY Children’s Museum. “Kids can get used to doctor visits and the healthcare field. It just shows the importance of health in our lives.”
DISCOVERY Children’s Museum has served the Las Vegas community for 35 years and remains the city’s only nonprofit children’s museum, offering three floors of interactive exhibits where children can imagine, explore, and discover. Intermountain Health operates medical clinics in Nevada and in five other western states, and is planning Nevada’s first stand‑alone, comprehensive children’s hospital, a project intended to dramatically expand access to advanced pediatric care within the state.
